Head Starts Day Nursery is an independent children's nursery managed and led by a highly qualified and experienced manager, with the support of highly qualified and experienced staff.
We are located in Bournemouth with Southbourne, Boscombe, Pokesdown and Iford in close proximity to the nursery. St James Primary, Pokesdown Primary, Corpus Christi, St Thomas Garnet, Stourfield Infants with the recently new Avonwood and St Peter's primaries all within walking distance of us.
Our setting is well resourced and equipped as well as safe and secure. It offers a home from home environment allowing every child to gain social skills and confidence they need in their formative years, providing them with a sound platform and Head Start for transition to school life. Head Starts is highly driven and strives for every child to leave the Early Years Stage with respect for others, along with age appropriate skills and experience for their future learning.
Parent Partnership We believe that by working in partnership with parents, we can together produce positive outcomes for all children. To help with this, we use computer programmes to enhance our ability to share your child’s progress and special moments at nursery each day. This provides parents with an overview of activities their child has taken part in, what and how much they’ve eaten, how long they’ve taken for a nap and how their toilet training is coming along. In addition, we provide monthly newsletters, annual feedback surveys, regular parents’ evenings and of course the day to day discussions with parents at drop off and collection times. We work with parents to help ensure each child makes progress in all areas of development, whether it be with their social, physical or communication skills. We are also members of the Potty Training Academy to help bridge the potty/toilet training at home and nursery, together. Safety and Security You can place your child in the care of our fabulous staff feeling relaxed knowing they are in a secure, nurturing, fun and learning environment. We also have many safeguarding policies and procedures in place throughout the setting.
We have a live monitor entry system that allows us to easily identify visitors before they enter the building, a 'no mobile phone use' policy for visitors while on the premises, a password system to ensure children are only collected by those authorised to do so, radiator covers, finger shields on doors and softer land flooring in our outdoor area.
All our staff are trained in first aid, we also have our own defibrillator on the premises. Safety and security is at the forefront of our minds, in recognition of this, we have achieved the Millie's Mark accreditation.
Special Educational Needs Support We follow the graduated approach in the SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 Years for children with additional needs to support them in their learning and development. Our setting SENCo works closely with parents, children and other agencies to guide and support children with their specific needs. Parents can access Bournemouth Borough Council's Local Offer here for further information about different services available from the Local Authority.
Breakfast and Snacks Included We provide healthy meals and snacks that are prepared and cooked on the premises each day. Breakfast and snacks are included in our fees. A cooked lunch is charged at £2.00 and an afternoon tea is £1.50. Our menus are well balanced to ensure children are highly nourished to help contribute to their positive development and growth. Our menus have even been approved by the Children's Food Trust. We also hold rating 5 for our food hygiene standards and practice by the Food Standards Agency.
My Name Tags Offer To help ensure children's belongings are not misplaced, we offer a £5.00 invoice discount for one month for parents who order their child's name labels from mynametags.com. The labels are stick-on and are dishwasher, washing machine and microwave proof. This helps our team keep track of the many different items of clothing and shoes at the setting each day, and helps ensure the children go home with their own belongings. Please use our school ID when ordering which is 85541, not our nursery name.
Children's Community Library We are very keen to improve children's literacy skills for their future learning so we introduced a Children’s Community Library that children of the setting and local community can use to share, borrow and swap books. Parents and children are free to access the library any day, we kindly ask for books to be replaced neatly and in one piece. Enjoy!
